By Sujewa Ekanayake * Images from Abby Singer/Songwriter movie: * Here is my brief review of Onur Tukel's excellent comedy-drama Abby Singer/Songwriter. It's a comedy about a talented but broke filmmaker trying to make it in NYC and a talented musician trying to make a comeback while managing a banking type career and family life. The movie is well made, and funny from the start to end. Tukel is known for making dark, sarcastic movies - this one is not really one of those movies. It starts out as something that is similar to perhaps Curb Your Enthusiasm. Then it goes into the world of making music videos for a musician who is trying to make a comeback with a new album. The stresses of both trying to "make it" in NYC in film and in music is reflected in the movie. Great cinematography - several different styles are used. Great ending.
