That’s not to say he isn’t offbeat as well (one of his movies was about a ninja going on dates). Their interactions are awkwardly funny, no doubt, but they are also enlightening when it comes to the life and career of an indie filmmaker. For my needs (indie fiction features) the Canon XA50 works better (1" sensor).  But, for other people, the less expensive Canon XA40 might work better - it's smaller, lighter, and has a smaller sensor. Both can shoot 4K, have XLR handles. Research the specs, try out the cams to see which one is better for you.  Here is some test footage from both cameras - no audio. Note - more post work was done on the XA50 footage - for a more cinematic look - some color grade work was done.
